Dodie Hallas makes unique and distinctive pieces of ceramic sculpture. Her work is about a compulsion to translate ideas and emotions into sculpture. She seeks to extend ceramic form and the credibility of ceramics as a sculptural medium. Her work displays simple and strong sculptural forms combined with the subtle colours and textures of smoke-crazed surfaces. She is inspired by the mystical and symbolic features of primitive, ethnic and classical forms and by the sensual and decorative qualities of Asian Art.
